The MissouriRx Program
If you’re signed up for a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan, but still have high medicine costs, the MissouriRx program may offer some help.
The state of Missouri offers MissouriRx (also known as MoRx) to those enrolled in Medicare Part D drug plans. For 2008, single people must have a total household income (including Social Security) of $20,800 to enroll in MoRx. Married couples can have no more than $28,000 in income for the year.
MoRx pays for half of members’ out-of-pocket costs remaining after their Medicare Prescription Drug Plan pays.
It pays for:
- half of the deductible
- half of the co-pays before the coverage gap
- half of the coverage gap
- half of co-pays in the catastrophic coverage
(However, MoRx does not pay for the Medicare Part D Plan’s monthly premium.)
Enrollees only have to sign up once. There is no need to renew your membership every year.
There’s no enrollment fee, and one can sign up at any time during the year.
Mid-East Area Agency on Aging’s Information and Assistance Department has kept busy helping people join MoRx.
Cindy Carlson, MEAAA information and assistance specialist, says that the department has enrolled more than 450 people in the program in 2008.
"The form is easy to complete, and we can help over the phone,” says Carlson. “We can get people signed up in a very short time.”
Carlson adds that Medicare Prescription Drug Plan members who meet the MoRx income guidelines are welcome to call MEAAA at 636-207-0847 or 1-800-AGE-6060 for help with joining MoRx.
You should have your Medicare card, Social Security number and income information handy when you call.
MEAAA will hold sign-up events throughout 2009. Call MEAAA or check this site for an updated schedule.
MoRx uses the formulary of the Medicare Prescription Drug Plans. Any drug covered by a member’s Medicare Drug Plan will also be covered by the MoRx plan.
